Hi guys,
Wondering what armor type I should use as a full int user....wondering which is best for my character...there are solid arguments for both since all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. I am want to start searching for armor sets for 20x-30x so any help would be appreciated. I know full str use garments so would prot or armor be best as a full int user? Especially since 20-30 is mostly melee combat until nukes at 30. What about beyond 30?

I say garments. If you're full INT you want the mana regeneration, and if you want a chance at surviving a nuke from another full INT player you need the magical defense. Plus I wouldn't be able to stand running any slower from place to place.

I also have pondered this question a bit myself. I am pure STR with fire and glaive. I have been wandering what Armor type to wear. Since STR ups your physical defense, either I could have crazy physical and little magic defense, or go garment to make up for my lack of magic def. At the moment I am wearing protector to stay in the middle and it is working for me well I think, but I need some suggestions on what others have experienced with this. I appreciate any and all help. :D

And just because I think this is funny.... :banghead:

I posted in the market place after you, but I will move it here.

I think it all depends on who you wanna fight Q(" Q)

Armor is great against pure STR players.
Garment is great against the pure INT players, and nukers

Protector is a blend of both. Not the best at one, but not the worst of the other either.

Alot of people are wearing garments but don't PVP, so it doesnt make sense.

Only a few types of monsters out there using magic - like the Earth Toaists.

I beleive everyone is sticking to garments because everyone else likes nuke, or INT builds. Nuke is currently pretty imbalanced, and hurts a hella lot even WITH garms.

Also, INT attack is very popular. Look at all chars and weapons. Magic attack is always much higher.

But thats why 56K kills them - hes a pure STR glavie, and they are wearing garments, which offer the poorest physical protection.

A lot of people also don't actually look into why. They'll just tell you 'garments are better' or 'armor is better'.

But there is no real 'better'.

Lastly, I will tell you this. A nuke from someone 7+ levels higher will probobly kill you ANYWAY, even if you have SOS+2 garments on.

// Sorry for jacking your thread Suicide :D

as far as i see it garm is ok for int users but u get ur ass kicked if u go against a str char (im gona get u 56k :P). So i think im gona try protectors for my next degree of armors and i think they will work better since they have better str protection than garms and beter mag protection than armors. hmm something to think about

edit: btw im an int build :P

Just wanna add, Im a hybrid(wont say how my stats are divided up :P) and wearring protector set, (since lvl1 :P ) and I have been able to beat pure builds in pvp (equal or 4-5lvls higher than me; no pots) Sure their nukes hurt but still it takes time to cast it, and within that time frame you can do good dmg to them.so I guess when choosing your armor set, you need to know you strengths and weaknesses ,how you play and skills you have(if your into pvp), thats how I did mine...

PS

Garments get speed movement bonus, and less mana use bonus. But they also get a penalty on experience.

Armor gets a smaller penalty on XP, and (some bonus I forgot, sorry)

Protector doesn't get bonuses, but doesnt penalize XP

Holy crap, are you serious about the xp penalty?
I'm not too sure about what you said for armor and prot though. I thought garment and protector gave speed bonus, and armor none?

from the official site:

Armor:

Chinese armor has high physical defense but low magical defense.

Protector:

Chinese protector has average physical and magical defense thus it can had over all kinds of monsters. It is lighter than armor so faster than it and needs low MP consumption. It can be worn with armor but not garment.
(In the case of protector set, moving speed +10% / MP consumption -10%)

Garment:

Chinese garment has high magical defense but low physical defense. Thus when many monsters attack you, you can be in trouble but it is light so moving speed is fast and is needed low MP consumption. It can not be worn with armor and protector.
(In the case of garment set, moving speed +20% / MP consumption -20%)

the way i see it, the reason armor doesn't get any bonuses is because it has better physical defense. since most monsters in the game use physical attacks, it can help alot in theory. personally, i use protector because i don't see THAT much of a difference between the defense of that and armor.

Garment pisses me off. The couple points lost on physical compared to armor is nothign compared to about 15 gained on magic.
You're right about protector, it's barely different on physical, and much better on magic. But as you said in theory, most attacks are physical so I'm thinking of sticking with my armor, but I want that mp and speed bonus :(

I've noticed that also, but I think the bigger factor is your Magic / Physical balance values (which will also affect your damage). There are also the OTR bonuses (listed above) to take into consideration. You also have to consider what sort of environment you're going to be in (PvE vs. PvP) and what (or whom) you'll be fighting against.

If it were based on stats alone garments would be superior, but it only looks that way on paper. I use armor and a friend uses garments, and she takes substantially more damage from the average enemies in PvE (when she gets hit), but spells don't affect her much (while they take a good chunk off my HP). Survivability when going toe to toe with a nasty in PvE is higher in armor on average.

I think one of the factors that is important is consistency in damage intake, which facilitates healing and survival. If you take huge spikes of damage at random times, it's going to be hard to heal and / or you'll have to develop good potting reflexes. Instead, I usually look at my HP / mana before I start combat and pot or not ahead of time according to my HP and the mob I'm attacking.

When I play healbot for my friend, however, I have to be really on the ball, because if she doesn't get a freeze proc or doesn't drop a mob fast enough, her HP will drop really fast. And STR-based crits / crit chains on garments are nasty. Fortunately I've had lots of practice healing, so she hasn't died under my care. ;)

You're much less likely to get a magical crit chain (from a mob) that bypasses heavy armor, so it's safer to wear armor, imo. It's an issue of glass cannon vs. slow and sturdy overall (at least for PvE).

Always keep in mind regardless of what you read that your mileage may vary, so if you get the chance to test out various sets of armor (maybe go buy a few sets of newbie gear to try them out or trade armor sets with a friend) that'll probably serve you better than something more abstract like forum posts. Nothing beats testing something yourself. ;)
