At least two explosions rocked the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, injuring at least a half-dozen people, a CNN producer at the scene said.
The blasts occurred a few seconds apart on opposite sides of the street, CNN Producer Matt Frucci reported. The first left "a big plume of smoke" hovering over the area, around Boston's Copley Square; the second occurred perhaps 10 seconds later, he said.
The explosions occurred about 2:45 p.m., about an hour after the first of the race's nearly 27,000 runners had crossed the finish line, Frucci said. The race was halted after the explosions as was subway service into the area.
Edit 1: Apparently they found another explosive device and a possible fourth.
The third explosion happened at JFK library, apparently there were no injuries there(who goes to the library anymore). The JFK library explosion was only a fire caused by an electrical malfunction? And was considered completely unrelated to the bombings and just a coincidence. When people ran from the explosion many of them left bag or parcels behind when they ran away so now all those bags are going to be treated as possible explosive devices.
Edit 2: Boston Globe is now reporting that 23 people are confirmed dead and at least 100180 people have been injured in the marathon explosions.
Edit 3: New video of explosions
Spoiler!
Edit 4: Found this picture of a guy who lost both his legs in the blast GORE NSFW
Photos obtained by CNN show the remains of a pressure cooker found at the scene, along with a shredded black backpack and what appear to be metal pellets or ball bearings.
Scraps of at least one pressure cooker, nails and nylon bags found at the scene were sent to the FBI's national laboratory in Virginia, where technicians will try to reconstruct the devices, the agent leading the investigation said Tuesday.
One suspect was shot and later died at Beth Israel Hospital. He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, according to officials. The second man apparently escaped on foot.
-- The slain suspect was wearing explosives and a triggering device when he died, a source briefed on the investigation told CNN's Deborah Feyerick. Several sources identified him as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. He was the fugitive suspect's older brother.
-- Police swarmed over a Watertown, Massachusetts, neighborhood looking for the surviving suspect, identified by Boston police as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, age 19.
-- Police ordered businesses in the suburb of Watertown and nearby communities to stay closed and told residents to stay inside and answer the door for no one but authorities. Boston authorities advised the same. The city's subway, bus and Amtrak train systems have been shut down. Taxi service across the city was suspended. Every Boston area school is closed.

The violence began late Thursday with the robbery of a 7/11 convenience store, according to Alben.
Soon after, in Cambridge, across the Charles River from Boston, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was fatally shot while he sat in his car, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in statement. Police believe the bombing suspects were responsible for the shooting.
The two suspects, according to authorities, then hijacked a car at gunpoint in Cambridge. They released the driver a half-hour later at a gas station.
As police picked up the chase, the car's occupants threw explosives out the windows and shot at officers, according to the district attorney's office.
Officers fired back, wounding one of the men, possibly the person identified by the FBI as suspect No. 1, who is seen in the images released Thursday in a dark cap, sunglasses and wearing a black backpack.
The man died at Beth Israel Hospital. He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, according to officials. The second man apparently escaped on foot
Richard H. Donohue Jr., 33, a three-year veteran of the transit system police force, was shot and wounded in the incident and taken to a hospital, a transit police spokesman said Friday. The officer's condition was not immediately known.(He has died since this was posted on CNN)
Those are the "higlights" of the article here is the rest of it if you would like to read it.
Edit 8: Second suspect was found hiding in a boat and was captured after a short gunfight around 8pm April 19th. He was laying in a pool of blood when he was found, police say it was most likely form the wounds he sustained during the shoot out with police earlier that day. He is now at a local hospital in serious condition.

The guy that was seen helping the man who had lost both his legs in the explosion.
Quote:
"The man in the cowboys hat is Carlos Arredondo. He is an immigrant citizen of the U.S. who lost his son in Iraq and is now a peace activist and speaker. When the explosions happened, you can see that he did not hesitate to run towards the chaos and help, obviously trying to get this poor man out of there and to hold a tourniquet on one of his severed legs. Later, he was being interviewed, visibly shaking from shock and holding an American flag, soaked in the blood of other people. Carlos Arredondo's selflessness and bravery should be known and applauded."
holy shit i just saw the pic with the guy's leg blown off, fcked up his whole life is ruined you see statistics "100 injured" and you dont really thing about it much, but that pic... Also, 3 dead, one of them a 8 year old kid..
