Well I usually upload everything to my photobucket for sigs, but they wont upload the ps format, neither will imageshack. I just copied and pasted it into paint then saved. Is there another way?

Photoshop will let you save as whatever format you want. Usually I save as .jpg for web previews, or .png for high quality with transparency (.jpg doesn't support transparency).

Formats to avoid: .psd, .bmp (because both will turn out huuuuuge)

Uh... *important*, always DO save your work as .PSD.
Psd = photoshop file, it saves all your layers etc.

Yeah, save the .psd but don't upload it. So you have to save twice, yes that's right twice.

Well... that's true, but you don't -always- have to save a .PSD file. If you're doing a quick work and get finished in like 10 minutes, there isn't any need to keep the PSD file because you'll never use it again.

On the other hand, if you're doing something complex or time consuming, you should save a PSD so that your layers and stuff won't get lost when you close the program. Also save frequently so you don't lose progress if your computer crashes.
