Hey WoW-Section!
I never really believed that I'd start playing WoW, but here I am. Anyways...

I don't know what class or race to pick, help please? =)

[*] I want something with high damage and good survivability. Kinda like a Hybrid INT Spear on SRO.
[*] Range or not doesn't matter.
[*] Good Solo-leveling/questing ability and PvP.

[*] I will play 3 hours á day at most. In total, not just effective grinding time.

Reasons plyz!

Damage, survivability and good at leveling.
Only one class springs to mind. HUNTERERERER!

Reasons:

You get a pet. Not like a wolf in sro. Hunter pets have seperate talents and skills and can even act as the main tank for smaller lower level groups. You can have pets that can deal awesome damage but not hold agro well, such as cats and dinosoars, tanking pets such as Gorillas and Bears that deal the lowest damage but have the highest HP and can hold agro the best (My gorilla can hold about 10 mobs easiily while i go rambo on their asses) or 'cunning' pets which have a good mix of both damage and survivability.

You can shoot from far away and have your pet tank, which means you never need to eat food. Plus if you use Aspect of the Viper, your mana will hardly drop at all (at the expense of 40% damage reduction), which means non-stop killing.

Hunters also have great survivability as they have a skill called Fiegn Death. If your health gets low or you accidently pull too many mobs, hit the skill and as long as it isnt resisted, the mobs will loose agro on you. It means you will normally sacrfice your pet, but he can revived once you're safe again. Not to mention their awesome crowd control with skills that can trap mobs, distract their attention to you (perfect for saving the healer in raids) and a skill to leap backwords, gettings some decent range from the mob so you can get more shots off or heal.

I could go on, but i think you already realise how awesome Hunters are.

As for race... Depends what you want. Night elf is possibly the best for Alliance due to their shadowmeld skill which acts like stealth, and is great for camping hordies in battlegrounds.
Stats-wise, Troll is probably the best for Horde, but Blood elves are probably the best for the racial skill - Arcane Torrent, that silences all enemies in an 8 yard radius around the Blood Elf for 2 seconds and restores 6% of your total mana.

What about Warlocks? I heard that they are like nukers but with pets to take their aggro.

I have a 56 warlock and i dont like him much, but you may be different. Warlocks are basically like warlocks in SRO, though i would never really compare a class in SRO to one in WoW because they are totally different.

However, some aspects are the same such as DoT's. Warlocks have summons that may be able to hold agro, but i find that they cant. For example, when i was leveling my hunter with a friend, he had a warlock, and my pet could always pull agro from him and his pet.

For PVE you have Auras, Seals, Blessings, and Judgments. All of which = survivability.
You use maces, great damage. Plus Exorcism which is pretty much badass.

You can easily solo, you can easily stay alive, and with Judgment of Light, you can pretty much always keep your HP up.

Skinning/Leatherworking would be <3 for a Hunter. I believe they wear leather armor. Plus skinning was way nerfed and way easy to level up.

For talents, I looked at some of the builds of the people in the official WoW forums under the Paladin section. Gave me a general idea of what skills I need.

I use Carbonite, Xperl, Titanpanel, auctionhelper, and onebag.

Hunters wear leather until 40 when they get the mail skill.

Quite obvious that he's looking for a mage. Not a paladin, nor a huntard.

Can't go wrong with druid, its fun, it doesn't have to stop much while grinding (feral at least) and at the cap whichever spec you chose, people will love to have you in their party, also its great in pvp of course. I'd make one myself but I like my death knight too much :p

Letherworking and jewelcrafting would be best min/max for one but you should probably take skinning instead of jewelcrafting first, since it's a little extra gold while grinding. Mining is also great for making gold but that means you wont be questing / grinding while doing it.

Oh now I'm even more confused.

Mages can't really solo I heard and that they need mana breaks all the time.

Druids... I have no idea. Can they solo group quests, like Hunters?

Frost mages can solo a fuckload. escpecially coming higher levels.

Aren't they also the best mage pvp spec? From what I hear.

From what I've raid.

Frost for PvP and exping.
Arcane and fire for raiding.

so frost/arcane dual spec would be ultimate all around Mage build?
